Interactive Poster: Risk of Rain 2
Design Goals and Process: I originally envisioned this as having a bit more content, more tabs on the left side, and more interactions within said tabs. The biggest thing that I really wish I'd had time to add would be sound effects. A click when you hit the power button and little beeps when you select options on the screen itself.
I had a lot of trouble trying to get Twine to conform to the weird idea I had, which took up around half of the time I spent on this project, just getting the game to use the right background image when the Codex was on versus when it was off, among other more under the hood issues. But after that, it was mostly just a matter of time. Which I didn't have much of because I did the whole thing in just a day and a half right before the extension's deadline as if I were a witless fool who had never before experienced procrastination in my whole life and had no idea how to combat it.
There are a few technical issues in the game that I really wish I had the time to fix. Mainly, the boxes that the messages and mission debriefing are in are "float boxes" meaning they're separate from everything else, and if you scroll down on the page, the box will come with you, completely disconnecting itself from the tablet screen it's supposedly displayed on. The second big issue, which is a lot less overt, is that the three tabs are slightly higher up on the home page than they are on the actual tab's pages. So they all move down a bit whenever you go to a tab, or move up a bit when you go back to the main page. It's subtle but definitely noticeable. Lastly, the screen flashes white with almost every interaction. I have no idea what's causing this, my first guess would be that the Base64 encoding isn't having fun with Twine. If I hadn't started too late, I would've had time to maybe iron out these issues, but here I am, right up against the absolute deadline.
